HELLO RIDERS
I’m Jason Winkler, the founder, designer, fabricator behind Spruce Cycles.
I began my career in automotive restoration of classic British cars and vintage race cars. I learned from the best about fabricating custom parts in metal, welding, bodywork, automotive painting and industrial sewing of custom interiors in leather, vinyl and specialty fabrics. After 25 years in that industry, I retired in 2020 to start a new chapter in the mountain bike industry.
I began competing in mountain bike races in the early 2000’s when I called San Luis Obispo, California, home. I was competing in all the big events in California for over 14 years. I’m sure I met some of you out there at Boggs 8 hours, Downieville Classic, Sea Otter Classic to name a few. As the years went on the rides got longer and more challenging. The 24 Hours of Moab race got me hooked on 100s and 24-hour racing. This brought me to relocate in 2014 to the most rugged set of mountains I’d ridden, the Colorado Rockies. Recently, I have competed in the Leadville 100, Breckenridge 100, Telluride 100 and the 525 mile Colorado Trail Race. You can also spot me racing annually at the Cloud City Wheeler’s Winter Fatbike Series in Leadville, Colorado.
Spruce Cycles Pogies are designed and fabricated in Colorado. I do my best to source raw materials and components from U.S. manufacturers including supporting small bike businesses and shops in my own biking community in Colorado.
I appreciate your support and enthusiasm for the gear.
